MISSION VIEJO – It was a day of thanks. A day of remembrance. And a day of gratitude in Mission Viejo, where grandmothers donned American flag shirts and children held signs reading, “Thank you for your service.”
“This day means a lot to me,” said retired Marine Master Sgt. Tom Spry, 86, who survived beach landings at both Guam and Okinawa during World War II. “It’s a day to honor all those who answered the call.”
Spry was one of nearly 500 people at Mission Viejo’s Memorial Day ceremony Monday.
